Grants Programme 2020/21 - update November 2020

The grants team have been extremely busy during the first half of this year and adapted brilliantly to working from home.
They dealt with: -

We have distributed over £150,000 in just six month!

Grant funding for charities

A number of big funders have provided support for charities during the pandemic so we don’t believe our funding is vital at this point. However, we recognise that some charities may struggle to meet demand for their services as we move into 2021 and beyond. The team are therefore working on a strategy to maximise our impact on key areas from 2021- more details to follow!

Grant funding for individuals

We are delighted to announce that we have partnered with Citizens Advice Wokingham and The Cowshed to trial a more streamlined and holistic support package for Wokingham Borough residents in need with immediate effect.

Citizens Advice have been our principal grant referrer throughout Covid and The Cow Shed continue to offer support to the homeless and others in need through the provision of clothing and small household items. Both these organisations were able to step up and support vastly more people throughout the pandemic so it seemed a natural partnership.

Any Wokingham Borough resident in need should call 0808 278 7958 in the first instance. The service is available Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.

If after a comprehensive review Citizens Advice identify that an essential item is required the request will be passed on to The Cow Shed to action. Wokingham United Charities will continue to fund these grants for predominantly household items as well as debt related fees.

If you are a Professional Referrer looking for support for an client, please encourage them to contact Citizens Advice Wokingham direct, alternatively, Citizens Advice has a referral form on their website which you can use if you have the explicit consent of your client to refer them. Please follow this link to the Referral Form
